Maintenance schedules, repairs and out of service

Service items counted in printer hours, logging repairs, and taking a printer out of service so the queue skips it.

4 min read

The Maintenance page tracks service against printer print-hours, not calendar days, because an idle machine does not wear out.

Service schedule

  • Add a service item, for example "Replace nozzle" every 300 h, with its parts cost and labour minutes. The item applies to every printer.
  • Each printer card shows every item with hours since it was last done and a badge: ok, soon (in the last 15 % of the interval) or do it (overdue).
  • When you have done the job, press Log as done. PrintSol records the printer's current hours.

"Showing what needs doing" filters the page to due items; "Show everything" lists all of them. A printer card on the Printers page also says "Maintenance overdue by … h" when something is late.

Repairs and parts

Log a repair (or press Repairs & parts on a printer card) to record what was done, the parts cost, the labour minutes and the hours it was down. Repairs from the last twelve months feed the printer's machine rate, so a printer that keeps breaking costs more per hour. The lifetime card per printer adds the purchase price and every repair.

Out of service

When a printer is broken or waiting for a part, open Edit printer on the Printers page, type a reason and press Out of service. The card then shows "Out of service since …" with the reason, and:

  • the Print Queue and Auto-print skip it,
  • any start sent to it is refused,
  • the scheduler leaves it out of its forecasts.

Press Back in service when it is fixed. Both changes are written to the Activity log.

A printer that is merely offline is still counted as available by the scheduler. If a printer will be gone for a while, mark it out of service so delivery forecasts stay honest.
