Process profiles: custom slicer settings per part, such as ironing

Make or import a process profile, attach it to a part, and every slice of that part uses it on every printer model.

4 min read

A process profile is a set of slicer settings (layer height, walls, infill, ironing and so on) that goes on top of each printer's own preset. Attach one to a part and every slice of that part uses it, whichever printer model it is sliced for.

Option 1: import from Bambu Studio

  • In Bambu Studio, change the settings you want (for example Ironing → Top surfaces) and save them as your own process preset.
  • If Bambu Studio is installed and signed in on the PC that runs PrintSol, open Profiles → Import from Bambu Studio and press Import next to the preset.
  • Otherwise export the preset as a .json file from Bambu Studio and upload it with Import file on the same card.

Only process presets can be imported this way. PrintSol keeps the settings themselves and drops the parts that tie the preset to one printer.

Option 2: create it in PrintSol

  • Profiles → New profile.
  • Kind: process (layer height, speeds). Give it a name, for example "Ironing — signs".
  • In Settings, type one slicer setting per line, using the slicer's own names. For ironing on top surfaces: ironing_type = top
  • Press Create.
PrintSol does not check the setting names or values you type. A misspelt setting is ignored by the slicer. Check the first slice in the preview.

Attach it to a part

Open the file in File Manager and pick the profile in the Slice settings card. PrintSol confirms that the file slices with that profile from now on. Earlier slices without it are not reused: the queue slices afresh on the next print. To slice by hand straight away with the same panel settings, remove the old slice first.

When you do not need a profile

A 3MF project that already has ironing (or other settings) from its designer keeps them, so a MakerWorld model made for ironing is ironed without a profile.

Process profile per printer

The "Process profile per printer" section on the Profiles page sets which slicer preset each quality (Standard, Fine, Draft, Strength) uses on each of your printer models.
